Terms of Service
Last updated October 13, 2026
These Terms are an agreement between you and Sugarcane LLC, an Illinois limited liability company (“Sugarcane,” “we,” “us”). They cover the Sugarcane app, joinsugarcane.com and our related services (the “Service”). By creating an account, signing up for a game or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.
1. Who can use Sugarcane
You can use Sugarcane only if you:
- are 18 or older and live in the United States;
- can form a binding contract;
- haven’t been banned from Sugarcane; and
- aren’t on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
One account per person. Your account must use your real name and a live selfie of you, not anyone else.
2. Your account
Keep your login private. You’re responsible for what happens on your account, so tell us right away at [email protected] if someone else gets into it. Keep your account details accurate.
3. What Sugarcane does
Sugarcane helps you find and sign up for drop-in pickup games at venues, and turns those games into clips, points and rankings.
Venues are independent businesses. They own and run their facilities and sessions, set game times, formats, prices, cancellation policies and house rules, and may ask you to sign their own waiver. Sugarcane doesn’t run the venues, supervise play or provide referees, and isn’t responsible for venue conditions or for what other players do. Game times and availability can change.
4. Signing up, paying and refunds
- Price: before you pay, the app shows the full price: the venue’s drop-in price plus a Sugarcane booking fee, and any tax.
- Payment: payments, including Apple Pay, are processed by Stripe. We collect the drop-in price on the venue’s behalf and pass it to the venue. The booking fee is Sugarcane’s.
- Full games: if a game is full, you can join its waitlist. You’re charged only if a spot opens and it goes to you, and we’ll notify you when that happens.
- If you cancel: each venue sets its own cancellation policy, and the app shows it on the game page before you pay. Cancel in the app, and your refund follows that venue’s policy.
- If the game is cancelled: if the venue or Sugarcane cancels a game, you get a full refund, booking fee included.
- Refund timing: refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.
- Price changes: prices can change, but never for a game you’ve already paid for.
5. Filming, clips and your likeness
- Sugarcane games are filmed, usually by a player holding or wearing a camera. Footage can show your face, body, pinnie number and play, and can pick up your voice.
- By checking in to a Sugarcane game, you agree that we may film you, make clips of your play, and show those clips in the Service with your name, profile photo and stats, and that other users may share them.
- You also agree that we may use those clips, your name and your profile photo in Sugarcane’s own posts on social media and in our ads, without payment to you. If you’d like a clip of you left out of future promotion, email us and we’ll stop using it in new posts and ads.
- If you don’t want to be filmed, don’t check in to a Sugarcane game.
- If a clip of you shouldn’t be up (for example, it shows an injury), report it in the app or email us and we’ll review it.
6. Risk of injury
Soccer is physical, and injuries happen, including serious ones. You choose to play, and you accept those risks. Make sure you’re fit to play, wear proper gear, and follow the venue’s rules and staff.
To the fullest extent the law allows, you release Sugarcane from claims for injury, loss or damage that happen at games or venues, except where caused by Sugarcane’s gross negligence or willful misconduct. In an emergency, call 911 and tell venue staff.
7. Points, rankings, Compete and Pick
- Points and ranks measure your play in Sugarcane games. We decide how points are counted, and we may change the system to keep it fair. Ranks appear after a player’s placement games.
- Points have no cash value. They aren’t your property, and they can’t be bought, sold, traded, transferred, or exchanged for money, prizes or anything else of value.
- Compete: two players signed up for the same game agree on a stake of 5% to 20%. Whoever scores more ranked points in that game takes that share of the other player’s points from that game. A tie moves nothing, and points from other games are never at risk.
- Pick: you predict the winner of a featured matchup, and a right or wrong pick slightly raises or lowers your next ranked game’s points.
- Only points ever move in Compete and Pick. Some features, including Compete and Pick, may not be available yet.
- No betting: don’t use Sugarcane to arrange bets or wagers for money or anything else of value, inside or outside the app. Accounts that do will be banned.
- Corrections: we may correct or remove points that came from mistakes (like a clip tagged to the wrong player), cheating, collusion or breaking these Terms.
8. Fair play and cards
- You can report a clip you think shows a rule being broken, like a bad foul. We review reported clips and can give yellow or red cards.
- Current card rules: two yellow cards within 14 days make a red card. A red card removes you from the rankings for 30 days and takes away all points from your last 3 games. We may update these rules.
- Points for beating a player on your own team don’t count.
- For serious conduct, such as violence, threats, harassment or cheating, we may suspend or ban an account right away, with or without a card.
- If you think we got a decision wrong, email us and we’ll take another look.
9. What you post
- You own the content you post, such as clips, photos, captions, comments and messages. You give Sugarcane a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable license, with the right to sublicense, to host, store, copy, edit (for example, crop, reformat or cut into recaps), display and distribute your content to run, improve and promote the Service.
- That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other users have already shared, backups, and anything we need to keep for legal reasons.
- If you film a Sugarcane game, you give us the same license to that footage.
- Only post what you have the right to post. That includes team photos and logos: don’t upload another team’s logo or someone else’s photo without permission.
- We may remove content that breaks these Terms or the law.
10. Rules
Don’t:
- harass, threaten, bully or demean anyone, or post sexual content or content that promotes violence;
- impersonate anyone, use someone else’s selfie, or run more than one account;
- cheat, including playing in someone else’s pinnie, letting someone play in yours, colluding with teammates, making false reports or gaming the points;
- arrange bets or wagers on games or matchups;
- post someone’s private information, or spam;
- scrape, hack, reverse engineer or overload the Service, get around its security, or use bots to access it; or
- break the law or a venue’s rules.
11. Reporting and blocking
You can report players, clips, comments and messages, and block players, in the app. We review reports and decide what to do, which can include removing content, giving cards or suspending accounts. We don’t tell people who reported them.
12. Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Sugarcane infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:
- a description of the work you own;
- a link to the content you’re reporting;
- your name and contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you own the copyright or are authorized to act for the owner; and
- your physical or electronic signature.
We remove infringing content and close the accounts of repeat infringers.
13. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if we need to protect other players, venues or Sugarcane, or if we stop offering the Service. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as 5, 6, 9 and 14 to 20, still apply after your account ends.
14. No warranties
We provide the Service “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that every game will happen, that every play gets a clip, or that points and rankings will always be free of errors.
15. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Sugarcane and its owners, managers, staff and contractors won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of what you paid Sugarcane in the 12 months before the claim, or $100. Some states don’t allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
16. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against Sugarcane because of what you posted, how you behaved, or your breaking these Terms or the law, you agree to defend and indemnify Sugarcane against that claim, including reasonable legal fees.
17. Disputes
Illinois law governs these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you have a problem with Sugarcane, email us first and give us 30 days to try to fix it. If we can’t, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court, or in the state or federal courts in Cook County, Illinois, and we both agree to those courts’ jurisdiction.
18. If you got the app from Apple’s App Store
- These Terms are between you and Sugarcane, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app or its content.
- We give you a limited, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store’s Usage Rules.
- Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the app’s price, if any. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple isn’t responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app breaks a law or regulation, and consumer protection claims.
- If someone claims the app infringes their intellectual property, Sugarcane, not Apple, is responsible for handling that claim.
- You confirm that you aren’t in a country under a U.S. embargo or designated as “terrorist supporting,” and that you aren’t on a U.S. list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your wireless carrier’s.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and can enforce them against you.
- Questions, complaints or claims about the app go to Sugarcane at [email protected].
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and tell you in the app or by email before significant changes take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new Terms.
20. Other legal terms
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Sugarcane about the Service. If part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce part of these Terms right away, we can still enforce it later. You can’t transfer these Terms to anyone else; we can transfer them if Sugarcane is sold or merges. We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our control. We may send you notices by email or in the app.
